The Durability of Sofzsleep’s Mattresses Should Not Be Underestimated

Besides being inherently hypoallergenic, Sofzsleep’s natural latex mattresses are also sturdy, and resistance to change. Whether you have slept on your Sofzsleep mattress for one year, or nine years, you will hardly feel any difference in its height, texture, resilience factor nor firmness. Each Sofzsleep mattress retains its superior properties throughout its lifespan of approximately 10 years or more.

Apart from receiving the LGA certification from independent German test institute TÜV Rheinland AG, a global provider of technical, safety, and certification services, random samples of Sofzsleep mattresses are also subjected to the dynamic fatigue roller test. The dynamic fatigue roller test is measured based on the European Standard EN1957, and is a durability test carried out via an electromotive driven roller test device which weighs a whopping 143 kilograms.

The electromotive roller is repeatedly applied across the span of the mattress twice, each time with 30, 000 cycles, to emulate the pressure that will be put on the mattress throughout its lifespan of 10 years. Subsequently, the change in height, hardness and resilience loss factor values will be measured, and compared to the values taken before the durability test.

Sofzsleep’s natural latex core recorded an outstanding result of only 0.55% change in hardness, and 2.41mm change in height after the stimulation carried out in the durability test.

Sofzsleep’s Mattresses Have Got Your Back Covered!

This goes to prove that Sofzsleep’s mattresses are able to withstand prolong periods of wear and pressure. April might be the month for pranks and jokes, but this post is neither. Every mattress that you purchase from Sofzsleep will deliver quality sleep for at least ten years, so head on over to the nearest Sofzsleep outlet if you’re looking to purchase a new mattress and ask the friendly staffs for more information!

Sapwood

You can usually spot the difference between the two distinct parts of the tree’s xylem if you were to view a crosscut of a mature hardwood tree’s trunk. Once you remove the comparatively thin outer layers, the tree is essentially made up of the sapwood, which is lighter colored wood, and heartwood, which is darker in color.

Sapwood is new wood and is like a pipeline which moves water through the tree up to the leaves. Essentially the working component of a tree, sapwood transports water and sap similar to the way blood flows through our veins, capillaries, and arteries.

Lumber cut from sapwood shrinks considerably as it goes through the drying process. This part of a tree is also far more susceptible to fungus than the center of the trunk.

Heartwood

As new rings of sapwood grow, the inner cells are put out of commission and become heartwood. The central, strong pillar of a tree is heartwood. Although this portion of the tree is dead or retired sapwood, it doesn’t decay. As long as the tree’s outer layers are intact, heartwood remains strong.

What occurs as moisture is no longer transported through the straw-like cells, the pores in Heartwood are filled with organic material. The presence of chemicals called extractives causes the cell walls in heartwood to change color. Extractives are what create the rich color and unique character in the heartwood.

The functional beauty of heartwood for a woodworker is threefold. First, it’s significantly less susceptible to fungus. Secondly, heartwood contains far less moisture than sapwood and will have far less shrinkage when it’s dried. Thirdly, heartwood becomes in some ways as strong as steel as the fibers are bound together.

Source: https://www.wagnermeters.com/sapwood-and-heartwood/

Conclusion

Hence, the darker variations on solid wood simply means they are the heartwood of the timber. Do not demean their quality based on their color, but instead appreciate the fact that they are comparatively stronger and more resistant!

Go Light

Use light colors on the walls and floor. Softer hues can make a cramped room feel bigger and brighter.

Hang a Mirror

Place a mirror opposite a window and it will bounce light around the room, making the space feel airier. The bigger the mirror, the better.

Sprinkle in Some Metallics

A shimmery lamp, light fixture, or object will have a similar effect as a mirror, reflecting light and brightening up a space.

Install Floating Shelves

They offer storage space without the bulkiness of chests, bookcases, and armoires. You can even swap out your nightstands for floating shelves.

Make Use of Corners

This often-overlooked area can be a great spot to squeeze in an extra accent chair or a corner bookshelf, making your room more livable. Or tuck a cozy chair in a corner to create an instant reading nook.

Fake Bigger Windows

Installing curtain rods a few inches below the ceiling instead of right above the window frame will draw the eye upward and make windows seem taller. The same trick works to visually expand a window’s width, if you hang the rods a few inches past the sides of the panes.

Match Your Curtain Color to Your Walls

Curtains that blend with the walls create an unbroken line, making a room feel much larger.

Choose Scaled-Down Furniture

Opt for furniture that suits a smaller space, like this petite table. Even traditionally bulky pieces, such as upholstered club chairs, come in narrower widths these days, so you can get the same look without cramming in your furnishings.

Opt for Airy Pieces

Instead of a solid-wood coffee table, which can weigh down a space, choose a see-through acrylic one or a table with an open metal base.

Decorate With Double-Duty Finds

A garden stool can act as both an end table and a spot to perch, an ottoman with a tray can hold your TV remotes or transform into extra seating, a bench can display books when not in use otherwise.

Sneak in Some Storage

An easy way to keep a small room from becoming cluttered is to choose furniture with space to store objects, like a coffee table with a shelf below, a bench with bins underneath, and an ottoman with a removable top and empty space inside. Note how this work space/dining space has clever cubbies to stash belongings.

Make Your Furniture Mobile

Buying furniture on casters—or outfitting it with casters yourself—allows you to easily rearrange pieces as needed, whether that means pushing a chair, table, or kitchen island out of the way or rolling a futon into position to comfortably set up overnight guests.

Bring in a Plant

Greenery makes even the smallest space feel fresher and lighter. If you don’t have room on the floor, try a hanging plant instead. (Speaking of casters: To make an oversize plant mobile—so you can easily roll it out of the way to vacuum or to protect it from too much sun—all you need is a piece of precut bluestone from a landscaping center set on a wheeled caddie.)

Use Walls as Displays

Hang up your jewelry, or pretty cutting boards and trivets, to clear out valuable drawer space in the bedroom or kitchen.

Pull Furniture Away From the Walls

A few inches between the wall and the back of your couch, for example, will make the living room look more open.

Add Vertical Stripes

On walls or drapes, they can make a low ceiling feel higher.

When looking for a bed frame the term VOC may come up. This stands for Volatile Organic Compound. The “organic” part of VOC is not the same as the “organic” that you’re looking for in your organic certification on your food or bedding. It is the chemistry designation of organic, meaning dealing with carbon containing chemicals. The “volatile” part of VOC means that it can enter the air where you get to breathe it in. In other words it can evaporate easily. This is often referred to as out gassing or off gassing when talking about indoor air quality. So for VOC’s we are interested in carbon containing chemicals that can work their way into the air. Let’s address some questions about VOC’s like where do they come from, how bad are they, what is the difference between low and zero VOC.

WHERE DO VOC’S COME FROM?

As far as furniture is concerned there are two main sources that VOC’s can come from: the material itself, and the finish used on the furniture. For the material the main question is what type of wood was used in the construction? Here the choices are a solid wood or engineered wood products, such as plywood and its relatives OSB, MDS, particle board, etc. Engineered wood products are made from wood scraps and glue, and the glue is going to contain a plethora of VOC’s that will off gas (come out of the product into the air). The thing about VOC’s in engineered wood products is that the glue is present throughout the whole board and it can take a long time for the VOC’s to work their way out of the wood.

So if you are looking to reduce the level of VOC’s in your home you should look for solid wood construction as oppose to engineered wood products.

When looking at furniture for their home, many people arrive at one key decision: whether or not to purchase solid wood furniture. With many lower-end, veneer, metal or plastic options available, many customers are left evaluating if the extra cost of solid wood is worth it.

Solid Wood Furniture

Few can deny the fact that solid wood furniture looks beautiful. It can bring a feel of classic and quality décor to your home. However, it is also a more costly initial investment.

Well-built, solid wood furniture is incredibly durable and designed to last for generations. It can withstand the wear and tear that comes from daily use and often requires minimal maintenance. However, with durability comes weight. For those who may move often, solid wood furniture can be far more difficult to maneuver.

Throughout the generations, if a solid wood piece does start to show its’ age, it can be beautifully restored. Due to the durability, solid wood can be refinished. The same can’t often be said for other furniture choices.

There is also a major benefit in the sustainability factor of buying furniture from a company who uses ethical sources for their building materials. While plastics and veneers can be heavily processed and filled with chemicals, solid wood can be sourced from replenishing North American forests and manufactured in a way that is much more natural.

Veneer Furniture

An alternative to solid wood furniture is veneer furniture. Veneer furniture often a much lower investment to purchase. It is more readily available in the budgets of many people, specifically first time homeowners.

Due to the fact that it is manufactured instead of harvested, veneers can be designed to give the appearance of a wider variety of wood finishes. You can often find pieces that have been made to look like a more exotic species of wood that may not be available in many solid wood collections. Veneer also can provide a more uniform finish and be easier to match to when adding pieces to a previously decorated room.

That being said, the problem lies with what is underneath the veneer. Many manufacturers use a combination of MDF, particleboard and other materials as the core of their furniture. These materials are mixed with chemicals and glues to be formed and provide strength. While this core makes them lighter and easier to manage, it also makes them more susceptible to damage that often cannot be repaired.

Conclusion

If price is the main factor for a consumer, then choosing veneer may be the short-term solution. However, as time goes on, solid wood furniture proves to offer more durability and a longer life. With lasting beauty that can be shared within your family, solid wood can prove to be much more economical in the long run.

While lower-end choices may have a smaller price tag, the problem remains that much like many other products, cheaper options can result in some sacrificed quality. What you save in the short term may end up costing you more in the future when pieces need to be replaced.
